Oh, You're The Pink and Blue Girl

A little while ago I stumbled on a pin from The Beauty Department. This is now one of my favourite beauty blogs to visit; love it. Anyway, so the pin was about colourful tips.

I spent a lot of time searching and their post was the best.

I made the decision to do it and then changed my mind. I am not keen on bleaching my hair after it went bright orange at the hairdressers and they did nothing to fix it. Sigh.

But then I posted it to facebook and twitter saying how I wanted to do it but wasn't sure. One of the girls from work replied that I most definitely should do it and that it would look awesome.

I booked in to the hairdressers for my day off. I knew that I would need to go a little darker because my hair was my natural red and I knew that the tips would look weird next to red hair.

First then added the darker colour to my roots and then bleached some of my tips. Once all the foils were in for the bleach they took the rest of the dark colour through. I watched as the bleach was added up extremely high for tips. I explained I only wanted so much of the tips, but my hairdresser didn't listen.

Wash my hair. Well they did. My *ahem* tips [some, not all] went blue the others were white. She, my hairdresser Kate, has said that she could totally be able to make me a blonde. As this first wash was happening, Kate went to prepare the dye; her boss then said, as she walked past me; "Oh, you're the pink and blue girl." Like they had been discussing me for a while.

Then the colour was added. Two different pinks and an electric blue. Kate should of most certainly wore gloves because the dye was all over her fingers and didn't wash off.

Rinse, wash and head massage. Oh my gawd, I normally love the head massage and bask in the blissfulness of it. Not this time. It was a guy who was giving the massaging and serious whiplash occurred. It was not pleasant and he was extremely firm with his hands. No thankyou.

Anyway; my hair was then blow dried straight and my fringe was cut back in.

And I was done. I paid, a little annoyed at how much but I loved it.

Fast forward two days later and Saturday night I jump in the shower. Instantly a pink runs down my boob and into the drain. I didn't think too much of it at first, a bit of excess. Until the water doesn't stop running pink. I was my hair and pull my hair around; my boob is a very bright shade of pink. I assume it is because the water is too hot.

I rinse out the shampoo and the water is now purple. A very pretty shade but a shade I would rather stay in my hair then be in my bathtub!

I dry my hair and the pink dye is left on the towel. My white pillowcase has already changed colour since Thursday night but I didn't think this would happen in the shower!

I figure it just must be the excess dye. I go to bed with a pair of needing to be washed leggings under my head, just until my hair is dry enough.

In the morning I notice that my hands are pink, my neck is pink and my boob that was a bright shade of pink is indeed pink.

Awesome.

I will be calling the hairdresser tomorrow to see if this is normal. I just don't think that much dye should be coming out.

  1. Definately NOT normal.
A few years ago I had hot pink and electric blue parts in my hair (see here: http://www.momentaryreality.com/2009/09/hair-model.html) and they never ran like that!
Sounds like you need to find a new hairdresser - ive never met one that doesnt wear gloves when they are doing a dye job like that :/
that said, i love the photos you have posted of the colour - its so cute!

    1. Hmm; my hairdresser said that it would run a little.
As for the gloves, I don't think she thought it would get on her like that. She wore gloves when doing the other dye + bleach :)

My red hair dye runs out almost completely leaving it a kinda salmon colour on the ends.

    1. I've never had hair dye run like that; I will see what happens next time I wash my hair but my tub is still purple :|

  3. Mine runs a little bit, but nothing extreme like that. I do know that the excess will come out after a couple of washes. But that's a bit crap about it staining your neck and pillow. And pity bout the hair massage, I had one of those, and actually said to the guy don't worry about it, I'll dry it off myself as you are hurting my head!

  5. I'm a hairdresser and a little offended by this post. Talk to the salon and hopefully they offer to re do at no charge. It's awful having an unhappy client, but ones who think they know best about professional hair coloring at the worst.
Bright colors on prelightened hair never last, it normally takes a few applications to make it set into the lightened cuticle. Good quality salon hair care will give you optimum results as well, chost and supermarket brands tend to strip colour.

    2. Hi Ava; I'm sorry you are offended. This is nothing more then a light-hearted post.

I never claimed to know best, if I did, do you think I would of gone to a professional and paid over three hundred dollars to get my hair coloured? I actually love my hair dresser, I love what she creates when she does my hair and I love this. She told me the colour pink would turn purple being so close to the blue and from washing, I just didn't expect to be standing in pink then purple water as I showered.

      Thanks for your comment.
